Friday 14 November 2008 08:30

XDC, the leading Pan-European digital cinema service company, and ZON Lusomundo, the largest cinema chain in Portugal have signed an exclusive agreement for the deployment of digital cinema systems in 180 of ZON Lusomundo’s cinema screens in Portugal.

Paris - Europa Cinemas Conference 2008 – The agreement signed between ZON Lusomundo and XDC includes the roll out of DCI-compliant projection systems co-financed by the Virtual Print Fee (VPF) model. Rollout is scheduled to begin in January 2009 with an initial commitment of 100 screens throughout the rest of the year.

Tomás Gonçalves, CEO of ZON Lusomundo stated “with this investment, we will be among the most innovative cinema operators in the world, and a landmark in the development of European exhibition standards. Not only will we be offering our spectators outstanding picture and sound quality, we will also be able to extend our programming to alternative content at all of our theatres with more recorded and live 3D shows, live satellite events such as opera, concerts, and sports. In addition, going digital will allow us to become a more efficient company, lowering our operating costs whilst at the same time generating significant improvements in customer service”

Serge Plasch, XDC’s Chief Executive Officer said: “We are very proud to announce our second VPF deal with ZON Lusomundo the most important exhibitor in Portugal. This demonstrates that the XDC’s business proposal meets the requirements of European exhibitors. We expect to announce additional deployment deals in other countries soon in order to reach 1000 installed digital screens across Europe before the end of 2009”.

Elisabeth Berradouan, Senior Sales Manager Southern Europe with XDC added: “This agreement is the results of a very professional selection process. We are pleased to start this long term partnership with this leading exhibitor.ZON Lusomundo will be the first digital cinema network in the southern part of Europe”.

Under the terms of the agreement, XDC will exclusively install DCI-compliant digital projection systems: Barco 2K Cinema projectors and XDC’s CineStore® Solo G3 D-Cinema servers. XDC will also implement a fully integrated and networked solution in each complex, thanks to its advanced Theatre Management System and Central Library, the XDC’s CineStore® Plaza.

Discover the Remote Near-live Editing Solution Presented by EVS at the NATEXPO

EVS, the leader in digital broadcast technology, will be presenting its remote near-live editing solution at the NATEXPO that will be held in Moscow from the 18th to the 21st of November.

EVS has developed a remote near-live editing solution based on the combination of its recently awarded XT2Web concept (IBC 2008 Star Award) and its non-linear editing system [CE]CleanEdit. The XT2Web is a web browser application that offers fast, easy, and intuitive access to clips and associated metadata combined with a series of production and rough cut editing functionalities. With this new concept, EVS provides web browsing on any local station connected to the web.

The user simply downloads selected clips in high resolution for near-live editing operation and fast highlights packages using EVS’ [CE]CleanEdit. The finalized edits may be sent back to the studio, to a file, or directly to the camcorder itself. The result is a quick and reliable editing process that can be used from almost anywhere.

Discover this unique solution on the booth of OKNO-TV (C22-C32), as well as other demonstrations of EVS’ latest broadcasting technologies on the booths of Qualitron (D28) and SKY VIDEO (C62) at the NATEXPO in Moscow from the 18th to the 21st of November.

EVS XT[2] Server Played a Major Role at the 60th Annual Emmy Awards

EVS' world-renowned XT[2] production server played a major role in the coordination and playback of screen elements for the 60th Annual Prime Time Emmy Awards.

Johathan Aroesty, Playback Innovations founder

Playback Innovations, a leading-edge technology company specializing in the control of broadcast video servers for high-end entertainment programming, utilized XT[2]s for playback of all of the “on-set” elements for the live broadcast. The Playback Innovations controller, called "Pi", managed all of the incoming content and allowed for the playback of multi-channel sync rolls on the XT[2] quickly and reliably.

Screen content was created in Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro by Stimulated TV using the Apple ProRes 422 codec. These elements were played back during the show by the XT[2]s, which natively support the ProRes codec. No video tape was used in the transport of content from post to playout, and most significantly, no transcoding was required at any point in the process. The Apple ProRes 422 codec was used from content creation through to final playout. Updates were done quickly, with an on-site artist making changes and posting them back to the XT[2] instantly as needed. The Pi control system automatically scanned the XT[2]s for newly arrived content, and built playback cues much more quickly than would be possible in a videotape-based scenario. The end result was a truly tapeless, instant workflow, with no need for rendering between the Apple equipment and the EVS servers.

"This is the kind of relationship with third-parties that EVS is known for." said Mike Shore, Senior Manager of Products and Third-Party Integration at EVS. "The XT[2] is especially flexible with regard to control interfaces, and we are happy to work with industry-leading partners to offer our customers best-of-breed solutions.”

"The promise of an end-to-end tapeless workflow has been in the air for quite some time," said Playback Innovations founder Jon Aroesty. "The problem has always been pulling together the various pieces from different vendors to achieve this goal. The Playback Innovations system provides an easy-to-deploy, simple-to-use system that will allow productions to finally realize the cost and efficiency benefits that are possible."

FR : MK2 distribue « Fly Me To The Moon » vers les écrans 3D et marque une nouvelle étape dans la distribution virtuelle

Wednesday 12 November 2008 17:30
