EVS Media Production Systems Deployed for World’s Biggest Music Event

Being the pinnacle of TV production within the European Broadcasting Union, the Eurovision Song Contest is the world's largest non-sport television production with more than 125 million viewers in over 45 countries. Every year the Eurovision Song Contest is testing the limits of live television broadcast technology.

This year’s contest took place at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf and was televised live by national broadcasters Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and ARD German Television. Over forty-five hours of PGM and ISO feeds were recorded natively on 7 EVS XT2 production servers as Avid DNxHD® codec files. The feeds were controlled by IPDirector, EVS’ content management suite, which was also used to create highlight packages and synchronize the playout of live and recorded content. And thanks to an additional XT2+ server with external storage, participating artists were able to play back rehearsals in their rooms to review the sound, lighting and performance before going on stage for final judgment
